Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan coach, has said his team is "desperate" to win the series against Australia for the sake of the country's fans who have been starved of international cricket because of security concerns in Pakistan.

The five-match one-day series is poised at 2-1 in Australia's favour but Alam attributed the lead to Pakistan's batting errors. "If you look at the results of the last two matches, they did not outplay us," Alam said. Pakistan were bowled out for 207 in the second ODI - with the last five wickets falling for 46 - and for 171 in the third ODI, where they were chasing a modest 199.

Alam said he had told the senior batsmen after the losses to stay at the crease and put a value to their wicket.

Michael Clarke, the Australian captain, said Pakistan would be under pressure since they had to win the fourth ODI on Friday to keep the series alive. "It's a big game for us too, we really want to win. We need to be more focused on what we are doing."

More than crediting Kings XI Punjab for their better performance on field, Rajasthan Royals' skipper Shane Warne blamed his batsmen for the mess that saw them lose to Yuvraj Singh and his brigade by 27 runs in their DLF Indian Premier League encounter at Newlands, Cape Town on Sunday.

"It wasn't a big score to chase. They just bowled well and we missed out on our job. Our batting hasn't been that good yet in this season and today we messed things for ourselves. We should have won comfortably. Our batsmen will have to take more responsibilities," said Warne. "We did quite well with the ball and on the field to restrict them to 139. We played a good first half but could not do justice to our batting. But there is a lot of cricket left and we will come back for sure,"

The added responsibility of captaincy gives McCullum the option of handing the gloves to Wriddhiman Saha, who performed reasonably well with the bat last year after McCullum's departure for national duty. With Sanjay Bangar flying back home, Kolkata will have to make at least one change to their line-up from the previous game.

Kolkata: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Brendon McCullum (capt/wk), 3 Laxmi Shukla, 4 Brad Hodge, 5 Sourav Ganguly, 6 Yashpal Singh, 7 Wriddhiman Saha, 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Ishant Sharma, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Anureet Singh.

Mumbai's Dhawal Kulkarni got pasted for 18 in an over against Deccan but he may retain his place, on the strength of his performance last year and in the Indian domestic season.

Mumbai: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 3 Shikhar Dhawan, 4 JP Duminy, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Abhishek Nayar, 7 Harbhajan Singh, 8 Zaheer Khan, 9 Pinal Shah (wk), 10 Dhawal Kulkarni 11 Lasith Malinga.

The turning point of the game came in the first over after the tactical time-out in Mumbai's chase. Tendulkar and Duminy had flipped into attack mode after a slow start and plundered 72 runs off the preceding seven overs before the break to put Mumbai on top. However Tendulkar, who had expressed his reservations about the seven-and-a-half minute interruption, mis-hit an inside-out shot off Ojha straight to Gibbs in the 11th over and gave Deccan an opening. Ojha widened that opening in his next two overs. He bowled Shikhar Dhawan as he swung across the line and had Duminy caught at deep midwicket by Smith, who covered lots of ground to take a well-judged catch on the run.

Mumbai had slipped from 86 for 1 to 92 for 4 but they weren't giving up. In Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo, they had two clean strikers and both made crisp starts before they were dismissed by Edwards, effectively ending Mumbai's challenge.

Deccan needed their bowlers' to raise their performance because their batsmen had fallen several runs short of the total that was in sight when Gilchrist and Gibbs got going. Gilchrist took four balls to get his eye in against Lasith Malinga before lofting the fast bowler over the long-on boundary. He hit two more sixes, one an outside edge over third-man off Zaheer Khan and the other a thunderous hit over deep midwicket off Bravo. Gibbs showed good touch by charging Zaheer and clubbing him past mid-off. He allowed Gilchrist to take the risks and after the left-hander was caught behind off Bravo for 35 off 20 balls, Deccan sent Smith in at No. 3 to keep the momentum going.

Deccan were 88 for 1 after 10 overs and the acceleration came two overs later when Dhawal Kulkarni was introduced into the attack. Gibbs smashed him for six over square leg and sliced him behind point while Smith launched him over midwicket to take 18 runs of the over. Jayasuriya, however, made the vital breakthrough, dismissing Smith for 35 off 22 balls, and began Mumbai's fightback

Saeed Ajmal, the Pakistan offspinner, has been reported for a suspect bowling action. Asad Rauf and Asoka de Silva, the umpires for the second ODI between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai on Friday, said they had concerns over Ajmal's action and hence requested the ICC to review his action.

The third and fourth umpires Zameer Haider and Nadeem Ghauri were also part of a report submitted to the ICC in which it was stated that, having monitored Ajmal's action over two ODIs, there was reason it be scrutinised further under the relevant ICC process. The ICC will obtain three copies of the relevant footage, one of which will be kept by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"Ajmal has played against four countries and nobody raised any finger on his action and suddenly this decision comes," Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam told AFP. "I think they [ICC] are lacking consistency in this process. He bowled exceptionally well and suddenly they decided that he has a problem with his action."

Alam said that Ajmal was "all right, not disappointed". "His morale is high and we will play him. No pressure on him as he is a gutsy young man and I hope he will take it lightly."

Ajmal's doosra is under scrutiny but Alam was confident of him being cleared. "Murali bowls such a delivery and he was cleared, Harbhajan was cleared, and there is no difference between these two and Ajmal. I don't agree that Ajmal bowls a different doosra, there is only one kind of doosra. Ajmal has hyper-mobility in his arm and I hope everything goes well for him."

Ajmal will undergo an independent analysis of his action by a member of the ICC panel of human movement specialists, appointed in consultation with the PCB. If his action remains suspect during the analysis, he faces a ban and will have to remedy his action.

Sachin Tendulkar has achieved everything on the cricket field and has set standards unparalleled in the modern era of the game, but one thing that eludes the Master Blaster’s coveted crown is the World Cup title. The Indian legend, who turns 36 on Friday, still nurtures the dream on winning the trophy for his country and says he will try doing it during the 2011 World up scheduled in the sub-continent.

"I want to win the World Cup for India,” he had said during a function in Mumbai recently. Sachin had also spoken about his special birthday moment on the field. “That victory in the triangular series tournament in Sharjah in 1998 was a very special birthday gift for me," said Tendulkar, who had hit a scintillating century against Australia to win the series on April 24, 1998.

On Thursday night, the Mumbai Indians skipper was in for a surprise at Cape Town where his team and his other mates from the Indian squad arranged a surprise birthday party at the hotel.

Speaking to reporters, the Master Blaster said that the good wishes and blessings of his family and friends meant a lot to him. “My family will be joining me on Friday and I am really looking forward to spend some time with them."

Tendilkar said he was still enjoying every moment of playing cricket. "It is important to enjoy the game and only then only can you give your best and that's what I want to do," he added.

Shaun Marsh, the Australian opening batsman, will return home to Australia after injuring his left hamstring during the first ODI against Pakistan in Dubai on Wednesday. Marcus North, the Western Australia batsman who is currently with Hampshire, will replace Marsh for the remainder of the series which includes four more ODIs and a Twenty20.

Marsh was on 4 when he attempted a sharp single to mid-on and pulled his left hamstring while diving at the crease. He resumed his innings with Nathan Haurtiz as a runner before falling for 16. The injury was to the same troublesome hamstring that kept him out of the recent tour of South Africa.

Kolkata haven't done anything special yet, barring Chris Gayle's explosive cameo. They overcame their dismal opener with a Duckworth-Lewis win over Kings XI Punjab and plenty rests on Gayle and Brendon McCullum at the top and then on Brad Hodge thereafter. The bowling is still suspect with Ishant Sharma not threatening and the spin department rather thin.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Deccan Chargers Watch Highligts

The IPL finally found its Twenty20 soul, in the eighth match of this edition. For the first time in this tournament, two batsmen combined to score at a frenetic pace throughout the innings. first smashed his way to 71 off 45 deliveries, 54 of them in boundary hits. Rohit Sharma followed with a similarly quick half-century. It left a hapless Bangalore Royal Challengers 185 to chase under the Newlands lights, not an experience teams queue up in anticipation for.

The impact Gilchrist made was immediate and huge. In the first two overs, bowled by Praveen Kumar and Dale Steyn, Gilchrist's clean hitting necessitated six fielding changes, and prompted a change of angle to round the stumps from both bowlers. What was constant was Gilchrist's severity on anything erring in length. He reached 26 in the first two overs and inevitably a bowling change followed.

Afridi Take 6 wickets win the 1st odi Pakistan

Kamran Akmal ensured that Pakistan were on course to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series at the Dubai Sports Stadium. Australia managed three wickets before the halfway stage but the bowlers failed to inflict the kind of collapse which Shahid Afridi orchestrated earlier to make the chase of 169 a contest.

Australia tasted early success in the seven-over period before the dinner break when the dangerous Salman Butt departed for just 5 off Ben Hilfenhaus. Butt was taken by surprise at how quickly the ball came on to him and trapped him plumb in front of the stumps. His opening partner Akmal flayed two boundaries through the off side - one off a free hit - to relieve the pressure after Butt's dismissal.

The seamers kept it simple and focused on making use of the bounce to keep the batsmen in check. Younis Khan tried to push the scoring but his fidgety movements at the crease meant that something was about to happen, be it a tame dismissal or an innovative boundary. He steered James Hopes just wide of slip's grasp for a boundary but his luck ran out when he miscued a pull off the same bowler to Nathan Bracken at midwicket.

Spin was introduced in the 13th over but Nathan Hauritz couldn't extract the same turn and bite that Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal managed against his batsmen. He overpitched too often and that allowed Akmal to get forward and drive through the line. He used his feet well and chipped down the track to bisect the gaps in the infield.

Shoaib Malik contributed only 12 in a stand of 48 with Akmal, content to let his partner hog the strike. However, as Akmal motored along to a fifty, a flashy drive outside off cost him his wicket and Clark had his revenge after being slashed for a four past slip two balls earlier. It was a timely breakthrough and another quick wicket, one feels, will make things interesting.

Pakistan vs Australia Watch Score

Perspective is a handy thing। The last time Pakistan stepped out in colours, they were bowled out for 75 and it led to a change in leadership. The last time they stepped out for a Test match, terrorists attacked their opponents. A few days ago the world said to them, understandably, that they would not be coming to play for a while. So what importance an ODI and T20I series against Australia in the Middle East?

Au contraire, the context is precisely what makes this battle so significant. Younis Khan knows it and hopefully his team does too. This is more than just being the first ODI in four years between the two sides, the first contest of any kind in fact, other than a T20 game in 2007. Not testing yourself against the best regularly doesn't just possibly hamper development but it also says perhaps you aren't important enough to go up against them often enough.

This series thus provides Pakistan with a sliver of an opportunity to reassert itself as a proper cricket team and not a wandering freak show, a carnival, laughed at, ostracized and taken with as much seriousness as one might take Jim Carrey. If they do well, win a couple of games and maybe even the series, they say something serious to the rest of the world, something not about doping, or legal wrangles, or security concerns, or impending financial doom, or in-fighting. Simply, by doing well, they say we are around and we are not irrelevant.

Sehwag fires Delhi to win

Daniel Vettori (three for 15) sent down a miserly spell of bowling earlier to help reduce Punjab to 104 for seven - with Karan Goel (38) and England's Ravi Bopara (22) the main contributors - in their innings, which was initially reduced to 12 overs.

In response, Gautam Gambhir and Sehwag made a flying start reaching 24 in just 1.5 overs, before the game was reduced even further with a total of 54 needed from six overs.

And needing 30 from 25 balls after the resumption, the pair showed no mercy and helped their side overhaul Punjab's revised total with more than an over to spare, Sehwag the destroyer with his innings including three sixes and four fours

India vs New Zealand 3rd test Day 5 Live streaming

Martin Guptill and Taylor had taken the score to 84 when a sensational over from Harbhajan put India in command. Bowling from round the wicket, he got drift, bounce and sharp turn. Guptill, who had played some lovely drives and a couple of punishing pulls for six, was one short of his half-century when Harbhajan trapped him in front with one that turned sharply. Two balls later, Jesse Ryder completed a poor Test by nicking one low to Dravid at slip.

It was the third wicket that India took in the session, and as has so often been the case in recent times it was Zaheer who did all the early damage. He bowled 15 overs unchanged either side of lunch, and troubled every batsmen with his pace and angle. Tim McIntosh struggled again, before an edge to third slip shortly before lunch sparked off loud celebrations. It was Dravid's 182nd catch, one better than Mark Waugh, and the ball received a grateful kiss once it had settled into the hands.

Daniel Flynn also didn't last long, with a bit of inward movement from Zaheer inducing an inside-edge on to the stumps. It would have been even worse if not for a TV referral that reprieved Taylor when he had made just 9. In real time, Taylor walked after turning a Harbhajan delivery into the hands of Gautam Gambhir at short leg. But as he walked off, he stopped to observe the replay on the giant screen. The umpires then decided for a second opinion and after multiple replays, the third umpire ruled that Gambhir had taken it on the bounce.

New Zealand vs India 3rd Test Match Day 3 Live streaming

A magnificent display of fast bowling from Zaheer Khan, coupled with a spineless batting performance by the home team, put India well on course to a series-clinching victory after just two days of the Wellington Test. New Zealand needed a strong batting display to stay in the series, but the technique and temperament of their top order was exposed thoroughly yet again, as they folded meekly in 65 overs for 197. Though India lost Virender Sehwag early, that was the only negative in the day, which they finished 233 in front, with nine wickets in hand.

Both teams could lay claims to taking the honours on the opening day, but today belonged quite emphatically to the visitors. Zaheer was the architect, knocking the stuffing out of the New Zealand top order by taking the first four wickets. Ross Taylor was the only batsman who stood firm, scoring a classy and unblemished 42, but none of the other batsmen looked the part.

New Zealand needed just 13 deliveries to clean up India's last wicket, but that was as good as it got for them. Ishant Sharma struggled while bowling against the wind, but Zaheer was relentless from the first ball. He charged in, found the perfect length and some swing, mixed in the short deliveries smartly, and changed his line of attack to keep the batsmen guessing. Operating mostly from a short run-up, he seemed to bowl within himself and yet worked up brisk pace.

He started the New Zealand slide, switching to round the stumps to get rid of Martin Guptill, who was judging Zaheer's over-the-wicket offerings to a nicety. But when the angle changed, Guptill tried to stand tall to defend a short one angled into him, and could only get an inside-edge onto his stumps. Daniel Flynn, back in the team for Jamie How, offered no resistance, lasting only eight deliveries before nicking a perfect delivery that pitched in the corridor and seamed away.

India lead in 239

New Zealand will look back to a previous Test loss to try and salvage a victory against India in the third and final Test at the Basin Reserve, batsman Ross Taylor said on Saturday.

India had established a lead off 233 with nine wickets remaining in their second innings by the end of the second day after they had skittled the hosts out for 197, with Zaheer Khan taking five for 65.

The visitors, who hold a 1-0 series lead, were bowled out for 379 in the first session and seem more than likely to sew up their first series win in New Zealand since 1968.

Taylor, however, said New Zealand were in a similar position last May when they lost a Test match against England at Old Trafford despite holding a 179-run first innings lead.

"If we can come out tomorrow and knock off three or four wickets early on then we give ourselves a big sniff," Taylor said of the match situation.

"All we need to do is think back to the Manchester Test and how England played against us.

New Zealand seized the advantage in the third Test against India, capturing three wickets including that of Sachin Tendulkar, in the session to reduce the visitors to 190 for five at tea on the first day on Friday.

Rahul Dravid was on 31 and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni six after New Zealand captured three wickets in the hour before tea. India had resumed after lunch on 101 for two.

Tendulkar had looked comfortable despite some deliveries from Chris Martin that reared up on him off a length and he brought up his 53rd Test half-century when he square cut Iain O'Brien to the cover-point fence for his ninth boundary.

He was dismissed shortly after when he got an edge to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum off Martin to be dismissed for 62.

Vangipurappu Laxman, who scored a century in the second innings of the second Test in Napier, was caught at second slip by Tim McIntosh off Tim Southee for four, while Yuvraj Singh was trapped in front by Jesse Ryder for nine.

Virender Sehwag (48) and Gautam Gambhir (23) were dismissed in quick succession before lunch after making an aggressive start, scoring 65 runs in the first hour.

sachin greatest batsman Hadlee

Sachin Tendulkar may not boast a Bradmanesque average but his ability to adjust to all formats of the game makes him the greatest batsman ever, legendary New Zealand all-rounder Richard Hadlee said here on Friday.

Hadlee, who was inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame today, was in absolute awe of the Indian run-machine and said he had no doubt that he was the greatest batsman ever to grace the game.

"I played against Sachin on his tour here in 1990: when he got that 80 or 90-odd at the McLean Park in Napier. You could see then as a youngster he was a player of immense ability and talent.’’

"We didn't see at that time and you cannot visualise 20 years down the track what the player is likely to do in the context of the history of the game. He has been phenomenal," said the 57-year-old, arguably one of the finest all-rounders of all time.

Justifying his high regard for the Indian, Hadlee said, "When you score as many runs as he has in Test and one-day cricket, and score as many centuries and half centuries as he has done, it makes him arguably the greatest player ever in the history of the game. Statistics speak volumes of his contribution to Indian and world cricket."

Live streaming India vs New Zealand 3rd test day 1

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's participation in the third and final cricket Test against New Zealand remains uncertain with the team management set to take a final decision on Friday.

Tough task ahead for India in Wellington | India in New Zealand 2009

Dhoni said the back injury that kept him out of the second Test in Napier has improved a lot even though he was not willing to commit whether he would play tomorrow. "My back has improved a lot. But we have to see how I am before the game," Dhoni said.

"In a limited overs match, you know the maximum you can keep is 50 overs, but on a good, flat track in a Test you will have to be ready for 120 overs. I will have to see how I am tomorrow morning," he said.

India vs NZ live Scorecard | Video Highlights

In Dhoni's absence, his deputy Virender Sehwag led India in Napier where the visitors huffed and puffed before forcing a draw in the match.

Dhoni, however, felt his possible absence would not weaken the team in any way. "I am not that kind of player that the team relies on me a lot. Whether I am playing or not, will not have much impact on the team," Dhoni said.

Gautam Gambhir was christened The Second Wall

RAHUL DRAVID doesn't really like the nickname 'The Wall' but it's stuck over the years and there's not much he can do about it. When Gautam Gambhir was christened 'The Second Wall' by Virender Sehwag, who cheekily added, 'this time from North India,' there would have been no reason to shy from the moniker. Sehwag and Gambhir share a unique relationship within this Indian team, and the chemistry does show on the field as well.

The two come from very different backgrounds, one the quintessential well-off Delhi boy educated in a posh school, the other from a very modest middle-class family and a place called Najafgarh that became internationally famous through his exploits. The two, brought together by cricket, have developed a keen understanding and respect for each other apart from a healthy friendship.

It came as no surprise when Sehwag said "Gambhir saved the Test for us," even though there were solid contributions from VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. The stand-in skipper had a forgettable match, being dismissed twice through shots he would not like to see replays of. Had India lost the game - and there was a realistic chance of this happening at some point - the questions about Sehwag and the way he plays would have gained currency. In that sense, Gambhir did what people in good partnerships do - lift their game to cover for the failure of a team-mate.

Gambhir's innings, lasting 642 minutes and 436 deliveries - or 10 hours 42 minutes and 72.4 overs - saved the Test, but it also showed that the pupil was worthy of the mentor. Sehwag is a unique talent and there isn't another in cricket at the moment who can bat like him, but Gambhir has shown he has it in him to plunder runs. His superb double-hundred at the Ferozeshah Kotla last October was enough proof that Gambhir was much more than just a short-innings player, and it came at a decent clip. The Napier effort showed that Gambhir had more strings in his bow.
