India vs Sri Lanka 2nd odi Live Nagpure,India vs Sri Lanka 2nd odi watch
online, live cricket streaming It has been a batsman-dominated tour so far, with big runs scored in the Tests and Twenty20s. In the first ODI on Tuesday, Sri Lanka fell three short of overhauling India's 414, which would have made it the second-highest successful chase ever.
Jayawardene expected plenty of runs in Nagpur as well but said the bigger size of the ground sIndia vs Sri Lanka 2nd odi Live Nagpurehould make the totals lower than in the first ODI. "It was a really good wicket at Rajkot. It was a fast outfield and smaller ground. History shows it's a high scoring ground," he said. "Here it's a bigger ground but a really good wicket as well. We need to adjust to that and to the different combinations. It's a fresh start."
India's batting unit is working well and the loss of three first-choice bowlers - Muttiah Muralitharan, Thilan Thushara and Dilhara Fernando - to injury adds to Sri Lanka's worries. Jayawardene, though, was confident the replacement bowlers would step up. "I don't see a problem. Obviously injuries in the past have taken good players away from us but we have not stopped playing or winning. It's a good opportunity for another guy to show what he's capable of.

Yuvraj Singh is almost ruled out - he has the flu, in addition to his finger injury and missed practice on Thursday - but Sehwag has been cleared to play after picking up a knee injury in Nagpur. The batting will remain the same as the first ODI, though Sudeep Tyagi may just fancy a debut ahead of Praveen Kumar.
India: 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Virat Kohli, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Praveen Kumar/Sudeep Tyagi, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Ashish Nehra.
Apart from the injuries to Murali and Fernando, Sri Lanka also had to sweat on Lasith Malinga's fitness. He missed the first match and the management will be hopeful of his return to replace Fernando. If not, it could mean a debut for rookie fast bowler Suranga Lakmal, who teamed up with the squad today, or a spinner coming in. If it is the latter, Ajantha Mendis remains the safe bet but one of Muthumudalige Pushpakumara or Suraj Randiv could debut.
Sri Lanka: (probable) 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Sanath Jayasuriya, 6 Thilan Samaraweera, 7 Thilina Kandamby, 8 Angelo Mathews, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Chanaka Welegedara/Ajantha Mendis/ Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, 11 Lasith Malinga/Suranga Lakmal.

1st ODI: India v Sri Lanka at Rajkot
Dec 15 (09:00 local, 03:30 GMT)

Yuvraj, who took 3 for 23 in Mohali, didn't bowl his full quota of overs and bowled only three before he was taken off after the 17th over. However, the injury didn't affect his batting as he slammed an unbeaten 60 off 25 balls, hitting five sixes, to help India comfortably chase down 207 with five balls to spare.

He was taken to a clinic in Rajkot late on Sunday evening after complaining of pain and later took an X-ray. Niranjan Shah, the president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, told PTI that a final decision will be taken after examining the report submitted by the orthopedic surgeon.

He could be replaced by batsman Virat Kohli, who was called-up a cover for Gautam Gambhir, who was suspected to have been struck with swine flu on the eve of the Mohali game, which was later diagnosed as negative.

Gautam Gambhir and Younis are fit and ready. But for India the good news is offset immediately by the injury to Yuvraj. They should go with the same batting line-up that won in Sri Lanka, except for Gambhir replacing Yuvraj and Rahul Dravid moving down the order. They will be tempted to play two spinners at SuperSport Park, which has brought much joy to Ajantha Mendis and Roelof van der Merwe in the first two matches. The bowling has been cause of worry for India, and those last three slots will be the most discussed.
India (probable) 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 Suresh Raina, 5 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 6 Virat Kohli/Dinesh Karthik, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9, 10 and 11 three out of Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, Ashish Nehra and Amit Mishra.
Who does Younis replace? Misbah-ul-Haq seems the most likely candidate; Umar Akmal would like to think he has earned another match after his Man-of-the-Match performance against West Indies. There seems no need to tinker with the bowling combination.
Pakistan (probable) 1 Imran Nazir, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Younis Khan (capt.), 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Mohammad Yousuf, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, 9 Mohammad Aamer, 10 Umar Gul, 11 Saeed Ajmal

These two teams have been apart for barely a month but lock horns again as England's international season makes its earliest ever start. Some players, most notably Chris Gayle, have only just made it back from the IPL as Test cricket struggles to show it still remains a top priority. This short series certainly feels unloved at the moment, as everyone waits for the main action of the summer to begin.

Yet, for England it is a vitally important contest as they search for that elusive momentum to carry forward. They start favourites but it shouldn't be forgotten that they handed back the Wisden Trophy with their 1-0 defeat in the Caribbean. A fresh-looking team will take the field with a new No. 3 and the possibility of two debutant seamers for the first time since 1993 as Andy Flower makes his presence felt. But after the upheavals of the last 12 months England are still playing catch-up as they try to work out their best combination.

West Indies, though, have struggled in the early stages of the tour and head into the Test on the back of a 10-wicket warm-up defeat against England Lions. The batting has been especially unconvincing and it still isn't clear who Gayle will open with. At least in Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards they have two quicks who can seriously trouble England, although they will have to shed some of their sweaters to bowl at full speed.

Inzamam believed that Australia were beatable this time.

Pakistan lost the series after suffering defeat in the fourth one-dayer, which gave the Australians an unassailable 3-1 lead in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

"I am disappointed"

"The Australian side we played in 2005 and the one in the 2007 World Cup were far stronger than the one playing in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. That is why I am disappointed we did not defeat them in the series," he said.

The former captain, who played 378 one-day internationals and 120 Tests before retiring in 2007, said Pakistan squandered a good opportunity to beat the Australians.

"On paper we were a better and stronger side than them and we should have defeated them. But I think the Australians got to us with their better planning and application on pitches on which we are more used to playing.

"I am surprised because Australia lost to India and South Africa before this series even with Ricky Ponting and their other leading players who are not playing in this series," he added.

Inzamam said there was lack of focus and application from the batsmen and felt that captain Younis Khan needed to lead with example.

Younis is a good captain, says Inzy

"I think the batting more than the bowling let us down. I don't see any indications they are problems in the team and Younis is a good captain. So I remain hopeful things will get better and we will learn a lot from this series," Inzamam said.

He said Pakistan need to prepare a new cricket strategy and think about giving some of the Indian cricket League players a chance to play for the country again.

"If some of the ICL players return it will strengthen the team and we will have a good chance of winning the Twenty20 World Cup."

He pointed out that the team management needed to do some research on why none of the Pakistani batsmen had got going against Australia even on slow pitches.

Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed said that Afridi had undergone MRI scans and the reports were awaited.

"But he is in pain and it seems unlikely he will be able to play. He has strained his calf muscle during the fourth one-dayer against Australia on Friday," he said.

Pakistan, who have already lost the series against Australia, desperately need a win to at least ensure a respectable scoreline of 2-3 in the five-match series.

Afridi has been Pakistan's best player in the series averaging 27 with the bat and having taken 10 wickets, the highest by any bowler in the series.

The Pakistan all-rounder claimed career-best figures of six for 38 as Australia could only manage a paltry 168 in an innings that lasted just 38.5 overs in their opening one-day international.

The world champions again lost their way in the middle overs, losing eight for 27 at one stage as they wilted against Afridi's spin.

Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan coach, has said his team is "desperate" to win the series against Australia for the sake of the country's fans who have been starved of international cricket because of security concerns in Pakistan.

The five-match one-day series is poised at 2-1 in Australia's favour but Alam attributed the lead to Pakistan's batting errors. "If you look at the results of the last two matches, they did not outplay us," Alam said. Pakistan were bowled out for 207 in the second ODI - with the last five wickets falling for 46 - and for 171 in the third ODI, where they were chasing a modest 199.

Alam said he had told the senior batsmen after the losses to stay at the crease and put a value to their wicket.

Michael Clarke, the Australian captain, said Pakistan would be under pressure since they had to win the fourth ODI on Friday to keep the series alive. "It's a big game for us too, we really want to win. We need to be more focused on what we are doing."

More than crediting Kings XI Punjab for their better performance on field, Rajasthan Royals' skipper Shane Warne blamed his batsmen for the mess that saw them lose to Yuvraj Singh and his brigade by 27 runs in their DLF Indian Premier League encounter at Newlands, Cape Town on Sunday.

"It wasn't a big score to chase. They just bowled well and we missed out on our job. Our batting hasn't been that good yet in this season and today we messed things for ourselves. We should have won comfortably. Our batsmen will have to take more responsibilities," said Warne. "We did quite well with the ball and on the field to restrict them to 139. We played a good first half but could not do justice to our batting. But there is a lot of cricket left and we will come back for sure,"

The added responsibility of captaincy gives McCullum the option of handing the gloves to Wriddhiman Saha, who performed reasonably well with the bat last year after McCullum's departure for national duty. With Sanjay Bangar flying back home, Kolkata will have to make at least one change to their line-up from the previous game.

Kolkata: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Brendon McCullum (capt/wk), 3 Laxmi Shukla, 4 Brad Hodge, 5 Sourav Ganguly, 6 Yashpal Singh, 7 Wriddhiman Saha, 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Ishant Sharma, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Anureet Singh.

Mumbai's Dhawal Kulkarni got pasted for 18 in an over against Deccan but he may retain his place, on the strength of his performance last year and in the Indian domestic season.

Mumbai: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 3 Shikhar Dhawan, 4 JP Duminy, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Abhishek Nayar, 7 Harbhajan Singh, 8 Zaheer Khan, 9 Pinal Shah (wk), 10 Dhawal Kulkarni 11 Lasith Malinga.

The turning point of the game came in the first over after the tactical time-out in Mumbai's chase. Tendulkar and Duminy had flipped into attack mode after a slow start and plundered 72 runs off the preceding seven overs before the break to put Mumbai on top. However Tendulkar, who had expressed his reservations about the seven-and-a-half minute interruption, mis-hit an inside-out shot off Ojha straight to Gibbs in the 11th over and gave Deccan an opening. Ojha widened that opening in his next two overs. He bowled Shikhar Dhawan as he swung across the line and had Duminy caught at deep midwicket by Smith, who covered lots of ground to take a well-judged catch on the run.

Mumbai had slipped from 86 for 1 to 92 for 4 but they weren't giving up. In Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo, they had two clean strikers and both made crisp starts before they were dismissed by Edwards, effectively ending Mumbai's challenge.

Deccan needed their bowlers' to raise their performance because their batsmen had fallen several runs short of the total that was in sight when Gilchrist and Gibbs got going. Gilchrist took four balls to get his eye in against Lasith Malinga before lofting the fast bowler over the long-on boundary. He hit two more sixes, one an outside edge over third-man off Zaheer Khan and the other a thunderous hit over deep midwicket off Bravo. Gibbs showed good touch by charging Zaheer and clubbing him past mid-off. He allowed Gilchrist to take the risks and after the left-hander was caught behind off Bravo for 35 off 20 balls, Deccan sent Smith in at No. 3 to keep the momentum going.

Deccan were 88 for 1 after 10 overs and the acceleration came two overs later when Dhawal Kulkarni was introduced into the attack. Gibbs smashed him for six over square leg and sliced him behind point while Smith launched him over midwicket to take 18 runs of the over. Jayasuriya, however, made the vital breakthrough, dismissing Smith for 35 off 22 balls, and began Mumbai's fightback

Saeed Ajmal, the Pakistan offspinner, has been reported for a suspect bowling action. Asad Rauf and Asoka de Silva, the umpires for the second ODI between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai on Friday, said they had concerns over Ajmal's action and hence requested the ICC to review his action.

The third and fourth umpires Zameer Haider and Nadeem Ghauri were also part of a report submitted to the ICC in which it was stated that, having monitored Ajmal's action over two ODIs, there was reason it be scrutinised further under the relevant ICC process. The ICC will obtain three copies of the relevant footage, one of which will be kept by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"Ajmal has played against four countries and nobody raised any finger on his action and suddenly this decision comes," Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam told AFP. "I think they [ICC] are lacking consistency in this process. He bowled exceptionally well and suddenly they decided that he has a problem with his action."

Alam said that Ajmal was "all right, not disappointed". "His morale is high and we will play him. No pressure on him as he is a gutsy young man and I hope he will take it lightly."

Ajmal's doosra is under scrutiny but Alam was confident of him being cleared. "Murali bowls such a delivery and he was cleared, Harbhajan was cleared, and there is no difference between these two and Ajmal. I don't agree that Ajmal bowls a different doosra, there is only one kind of doosra. Ajmal has hyper-mobility in his arm and I hope everything goes well for him."

Ajmal will undergo an independent analysis of his action by a member of the ICC panel of human movement specialists, appointed in consultation with the PCB. If his action remains suspect during the analysis, he faces a ban and will have to remedy his action.

Sachin Tendulkar has achieved everything on the cricket field and has set standards unparalleled in the modern era of the game, but one thing that eludes the Master Blaster’s coveted crown is the World Cup title. The Indian legend, who turns 36 on Friday, still nurtures the dream on winning the trophy for his country and says he will try doing it during the 2011 World up scheduled in the sub-continent.

"I want to win the World Cup for India,” he had said during a function in Mumbai recently. Sachin had also spoken about his special birthday moment on the field. “That victory in the triangular series tournament in Sharjah in 1998 was a very special birthday gift for me," said Tendulkar, who had hit a scintillating century against Australia to win the series on April 24, 1998.

On Thursday night, the Mumbai Indians skipper was in for a surprise at Cape Town where his team and his other mates from the Indian squad arranged a surprise birthday party at the hotel.

Speaking to reporters, the Master Blaster said that the good wishes and blessings of his family and friends meant a lot to him. “My family will be joining me on Friday and I am really looking forward to spend some time with them."

Tendilkar said he was still enjoying every moment of playing cricket. "It is important to enjoy the game and only then only can you give your best and that's what I want to do," he added.

Marcus North, the Western Australia batsman who is currently with Hampshire, will replace Marsh for the remainder of the series which includes four more ODIs and a Twenty20.

Marsh was on 4 when he attempted a sharp single to mid-on and pulled his left hamstring while diving at the crease. He resumed his innings with Nathan Haurtiz as a runner before falling for 16. The injury was to the same troublesome hamstring that kept him out of the recent tour of South Africa.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Deccan Chargers Watch Highligts

The IPL finally found its Twenty20 soul, in the eighth match of this edition. For the first time in this tournament, two batsmen combined to score at a frenetic pace throughout the innings. first smashed his way to 71 off 45 deliveries, 54 of them in boundary hits. Rohit Sharma followed with a similarly quick half-century. It left a hapless Bangalore Royal Challengers 185 to chase under the Newlands lights, not an experience teams queue up in anticipation for.

The impact Gilchrist made was immediate and huge. In the first two overs, bowled by Praveen Kumar and Dale Steyn, Gilchrist's clean hitting necessitated six fielding changes, and prompted a change of angle to round the stumps from both bowlers. What was constant was Gilchrist's severity on anything erring in length. He reached 26 in the first two overs and inevitably a bowling change followed.

Afridi Take 6 wickets win the 1st odi Pakistan

Kamran Akmal ensured that Pakistan were on course to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series at the Dubai Sports Stadium. Australia managed three wickets before the halfway stage but the bowlers failed to inflict the kind of collapse which Shahid Afridi orchestrated earlier to make the chase of 169 a contest.

Australia tasted early success in the seven-over period before the dinner break when the dangerous Salman Butt departed for just 5 off Ben Hilfenhaus. Butt was taken by surprise at how quickly the ball came on to him and trapped him plumb in front of the stumps. His opening partner Akmal flayed two boundaries through the off side - one off a free hit - to relieve the pressure after Butt's dismissal.

The seamers kept it simple and focused on making use of the bounce to keep the batsmen in check. Younis Khan tried to push the scoring but his fidgety movements at the crease meant that something was about to happen, be it a tame dismissal or an innovative boundary. He steered James Hopes just wide of slip's grasp for a boundary but his luck ran out when he miscued a pull off the same bowler to Nathan Bracken at midwicket.

Spin was introduced in the 13th over but Nathan Hauritz couldn't extract the same turn and bite that Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal managed against his batsmen. He overpitched too often and that allowed Akmal to get forward and drive through the line. He used his feet well and chipped down the track to bisect the gaps in the infield.

Shoaib Malik contributed only 12 in a stand of 48 with Akmal, content to let his partner hog the strike. However, as Akmal motored along to a fifty, a flashy drive outside off cost him his wicket and Clark had his revenge after being slashed for a four past slip two balls earlier. It was a timely breakthrough and another quick wicket, one feels, will make things interesting.

Pakistan vs Australia Watch Score

Perspective is a handy thing। The last time Pakistan stepped out in colours, they were bowled out for 75 and it led to a change in leadership. The last time they stepped out for a Test match, terrorists attacked their opponents. A few days ago the world said to them, understandably, that they would not be coming to play for a while. So what importance an ODI and T20I series against Australia in the Middle East?

Au contraire, the context is precisely what makes this battle so significant. Younis Khan knows it and hopefully his team does too. This is more than just being the first ODI in four years between the two sides, the first contest of any kind in fact, other than a T20 game in 2007. Not testing yourself against the best regularly doesn't just possibly hamper development but it also says perhaps you aren't important enough to go up against them often enough.

This series thus provides Pakistan with a sliver of an opportunity to reassert itself as a proper cricket team and not a wandering freak show, a carnival, laughed at, ostracized and taken with as much seriousness as one might take Jim Carrey. If they do well, win a couple of games and maybe even the series, they say something serious to the rest of the world, something not about doping, or legal wrangles, or security concerns, or impending financial doom, or in-fighting. Simply, by doing well, they say we are around and we are not irrelevant.

Sehwag fires Delhi to win

Daniel Vettori (three for 15) sent down a miserly spell of bowling earlier to help reduce Punjab to 104 for seven - with Karan Goel (38) and England's Ravi Bopara (22) the main contributors - in their innings, which was initially reduced to 12 overs.

In response, Gautam Gambhir and Sehwag made a flying start reaching 24 in just 1.5 overs, before the game was reduced even further with a total of 54 needed from six overs.

And needing 30 from 25 balls after the resumption, the pair showed no mercy and helped their side overhaul Punjab's revised total with more than an over to spare, Sehwag the destroyer with his innings including three sixes and four fours

India vs New Zealand 3rd test Day 5 Live streaming

Martin Guptill and Taylor had taken the score to 84 when a sensational over from Harbhajan put India in command. Bowling from round the wicket, he got drift, bounce and sharp turn. Guptill, who had played some lovely drives and a couple of punishing pulls for six, was one short of his half-century when Harbhajan trapped him in front with one that turned sharply. Two balls later, Jesse Ryder completed a poor Test by nicking one low to Dravid at slip.

It was the third wicket that India took in the session, and as has so often been the case in recent times it was Zaheer who did all the early damage. He bowled 15 overs unchanged either side of lunch, and troubled every batsmen with his pace and angle. Tim McIntosh struggled again, before an edge to third slip shortly before lunch sparked off loud celebrations. It was Dravid's 182nd catch, one better than Mark Waugh, and the ball received a grateful kiss once it had settled into the hands.

Daniel Flynn also didn't last long, with a bit of inward movement from Zaheer inducing an inside-edge on to the stumps. It would have been even worse if not for a TV referral that reprieved Taylor when he had made just 9. In real time, Taylor walked after turning a Harbhajan delivery into the hands of Gautam Gambhir at short leg. But as he walked off, he stopped to observe the replay on the giant screen. The umpires then decided for a second opinion and after multiple replays, the third umpire ruled that Gambhir had taken it on the bounce.

New Zealand vs India 3rd Test Match Day 3 Live streaming

A magnificent display of fast bowling from Zaheer Khan, coupled with a spineless batting performance by the home team, put India well on course to a series-clinching victory after just two days of the Wellington Test. New Zealand needed a strong batting display to stay in the series, but the technique and temperament of their top order was exposed thoroughly yet again, as they folded meekly in 65 overs for 197. Though India lost Virender Sehwag early, that was the only negative in the day, which they finished 233 in front, with nine wickets in hand.

Both teams could lay claims to taking the honours on the opening day, but today belonged quite emphatically to the visitors. Zaheer was the architect, knocking the stuffing out of the New Zealand top order by taking the first four wickets. Ross Taylor was the only batsman who stood firm, scoring a classy and unblemished 42, but none of the other batsmen looked the part.

New Zealand needed just 13 deliveries to clean up India's last wicket, but that was as good as it got for them. Ishant Sharma struggled while bowling against the wind, but Zaheer was relentless from the first ball. He charged in, found the perfect length and some swing, mixed in the short deliveries smartly, and changed his line of attack to keep the batsmen guessing. Operating mostly from a short run-up, he seemed to bowl within himself and yet worked up brisk pace.

He started the New Zealand slide, switching to round the stumps to get rid of Martin Guptill, who was judging Zaheer's over-the-wicket offerings to a nicety. But when the angle changed, Guptill tried to stand tall to defend a short one angled into him, and could only get an inside-edge onto his stumps. Daniel Flynn, back in the team for Jamie How, offered no resistance, lasting only eight deliveries before nicking a perfect delivery that pitched in the corridor and seamed away.

India lead in 239

New Zealand will look back to a previous Test loss to try and salvage a victory against India in the third and final Test at the Basin Reserve, batsman Ross Taylor said on Saturday.

India had established a lead off 233 with nine wickets remaining in their second innings by the end of the second day after they had skittled the hosts out for 197, with Zaheer Khan taking five for 65.

The visitors, who hold a 1-0 series lead, were bowled out for 379 in the first session and seem more than likely to sew up their first series win in New Zealand since 1968.

Taylor, however, said New Zealand were in a similar position last May when they lost a Test match against England at Old Trafford despite holding a 179-run first innings lead.

"If we can come out tomorrow and knock off three or four wickets early on then we give ourselves a big sniff," Taylor said of the match situation.

"All we need to do is think back to the Manchester Test and how England played against us.

New Zealand seized the advantage in the third Test against India, capturing three wickets including that of Sachin Tendulkar, in the session to reduce the visitors to 190 for five at tea on the first day on Friday.

Rahul Dravid was on 31 and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni six after New Zealand captured three wickets in the hour before tea. India had resumed after lunch on 101 for two.

Tendulkar had looked comfortable despite some deliveries from Chris Martin that reared up on him off a length and he brought up his 53rd Test half-century when he square cut Iain O'Brien to the cover-point fence for his ninth boundary.

He was dismissed shortly after when he got an edge to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum off Martin to be dismissed for 62.

Vangipurappu Laxman, who scored a century in the second innings of the second Test in Napier, was caught at second slip by Tim McIntosh off Tim Southee for four, while Yuvraj Singh was trapped in front by Jesse Ryder for nine.

Virender Sehwag (48) and Gautam Gambhir (23) were dismissed in quick succession before lunch after making an aggressive start, scoring 65 runs in the first hour.

sachin greatest batsman Hadlee

Sachin Tendulkar may not boast a Bradmanesque average but his ability to adjust to all formats of the game makes him the greatest batsman ever, legendary New Zealand all-rounder Richard Hadlee said here on Friday.

Hadlee, who was inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame today, was in absolute awe of the Indian run-machine and said he had no doubt that he was the greatest batsman ever to grace the game.

"I played against Sachin on his tour here in 1990: when he got that 80 or 90-odd at the McLean Park in Napier. You could see then as a youngster he was a player of immense ability and talent.’’

"We didn't see at that time and you cannot visualise 20 years down the track what the player is likely to do in the context of the history of the game. He has been phenomenal," said the 57-year-old, arguably one of the finest all-rounders of all time.

Justifying his high regard for the Indian, Hadlee said, "When you score as many runs as he has in Test and one-day cricket, and score as many centuries and half centuries as he has done, it makes him arguably the greatest player ever in the history of the game. Statistics speak volumes of his contribution to Indian and world cricket."

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's participation in the third and final cricket Test against New Zealand remains uncertain with the team management set to take a final decision on Friday.

Tough task ahead for India in Wellington | India in New Zealand 2009

Dhoni said the back injury that kept him out of the second Test in Napier has improved a lot even though he was not willing to commit whether he would play tomorrow. "My back has improved a lot. But we have to see how I am before the game," Dhoni said.

"In a limited overs match, you know the maximum you can keep is 50 overs, but on a good, flat track in a Test you will have to be ready for 120 overs. I will have to see how I am tomorrow morning," he said.

India vs NZ live Scorecard | Video Highlights

In Dhoni's absence, his deputy Virender Sehwag led India in Napier where the visitors huffed and puffed before forcing a draw in the match.

Dhoni, however, felt his possible absence would not weaken the team in any way. "I am not that kind of player that the team relies on me a lot. Whether I am playing or not, will not have much impact on the team," Dhoni said.

Gautam Gambhir was christened The Second Wall

RAHUL DRAVID doesn't really like the nickname 'The Wall' but it's stuck over the years and there's not much he can do about it. When Gautam Gambhir was christened 'The Second Wall' by Virender Sehwag, who cheekily added, 'this time from North India,' there would have been no reason to shy from the moniker. Sehwag and Gambhir share a unique relationship within this Indian team, and the chemistry does show on the field as well.

The two come from very different backgrounds, one the quintessential well-off Delhi boy educated in a posh school, the other from a very modest middle-class family and a place called Najafgarh that became internationally famous through his exploits. The two, brought together by cricket, have developed a keen understanding and respect for each other apart from a healthy friendship.

It came as no surprise when Sehwag said "Gambhir saved the Test for us," even though there were solid contributions from VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. The stand-in skipper had a forgettable match, being dismissed twice through shots he would not like to see replays of. Had India lost the game - and there was a realistic chance of this happening at some point - the questions about Sehwag and the way he plays would have gained currency. In that sense, Gambhir did what people in good partnerships do - lift their game to cover for the failure of a team-mate.

Gambhir's innings, lasting 642 minutes and 436 deliveries - or 10 hours 42 minutes and 72.4 overs - saved the Test, but it also showed that the pupil was worthy of the mentor. Sehwag is a unique talent and there isn't another in cricket at the moment who can bat like him, but Gambhir has shown he has it in him to plunder runs. His superb double-hundred at the Ferozeshah Kotla last October was enough proof that Gambhir was much more than just a short-innings player, and it came at a decent clip. The Napier effort showed that Gambhir had more strings in his bow.

New Zealand vs india 2nd test day 3 live streaming

NAPIER, New Zealand vs india slumped to 79 for three in reply to New Zealand's mammoth 619 for nine declared led by Jesse Ryder's double century on the second day of the second Test at McLean Park on Friday.

Rahul Dravid was on 21 and Sachin Tendulkar was yet to score at stumps after nightwatchman Ishant Sharma, who came in when Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 16, was trapped leg before by skipper Daniel Vettori for a duck in the penultimate over.

Bowlers did well, but our fielders failed us: Sehwag | India in New Zealand 2009

The dangerous Virender Sehwag was the first wicket to fall when he was caught behind by Brendon McCullum off Vettori for 34, a ball after he had smashed the spinner for six.

Gambhir, who had already survived a close run out call, threw his wicket away when he should have been circumspect, failing to clear Vettori at mid-on against off-spinner Jeetan Patel with six overs remaining in the day's play.

New Zealand's massive score was anchored by Jesse Ryder's 201, his first Test double century, and wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum's third Test century.

McCullum scored his century at almost a run a ball without any of his characteristic big hitting before he was dismissed for 115 as Vettori asked him to chase quick runs after tea.

India vs NZ Scorecard

The century was McCullum's first against a major Test team after his other two centuries were scored against Bangladesh 143 and Zimbabwe 111

Vettori scored 55 before he chopped on a delivery from Zaheer Khan, while Jeetan Patel was the last man out for one when Ishant Sharma took a good catch at midwicket off Harbhajan Singh.

James Franklin shared in a 121-run fifth-wicket partnership with Ryder before the all-rounder was caught short of his ground when called through for a quick single to be dismissed for 52 in the first session.

NZ 619-9 decl india vs new zealand 2nd test day 2

esse Ryder reached 201 before New Zealand's declaration at 619 for nine wickets Friday on the second day of the second cricket test against India.

India was in trouble at stumps in reply, with New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori claiming two wickets to reduce India to 79-3 after 23 overs. Vettori declared New Zealand's first innings with 90 minutes remaining in the second day's play at McLean Park.

Brendon McCullum scored 115, Vettori 55 and James Franklin 52, following Ross Taylor's 151 on the first day, as New Zealand, trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, compiled its third-highest test total.

Vettori joined the New Zealand attack after only nine overs and removed Virender Sehwag for 34 and nightwatchman Ishant Sharma for 0, then took a catch from offspinner Jeetan Patel to dismiss Gautam Gambhir for 16.

Ryder was the star of the day, however, resuming his innings at 137 not out and batting for just over eight hours to raise the third double century and third-highest score by a New Zealander against India.

The stocky left-hander, whose only other test century (102) came two innings previously in the first innings of the first test at Hamilton, was then out to the next ball, bowled off an inside edge by Zaheer Khan. His innings market the 15th test double century by a New Zealand player.

Ryder was also out one ball after achieving his century in the Hamilton test _ won by India by 10 wickets _ but in combination, across three innings in the series so far, has batted more than 13 hours for 324 runs.

He has now scored 50 or more in four of his last five test innings _ including two centuries _ and has averaged 132 over a prolific period which began with his 89 in the first innings of the first test against the West Indies in December.

At the end of his innings Friday, he was averaging 64 with two centuries and four half centuries in a test career of only eight matches and 14 innings.

"I'm pretty much speechless," Ryder said. "I wasn't expecting to go out and score a double century. I just knuckled down and played my game and it came off. The last two days just showed we're capable of getting big totals."

Ryder began his marathon vigil when New Zealand was 23-3 in the 11th over Thursday, after winning the toss and batting.

He shared partnerships of 271 for the fourth wicket with Taylor, 121 for the fifth wicket with Franklin, run out for 52 before lunch, and finally 62 for the sixth wicket with McCullum.

McCullum reached his third test century three balls before tea and went on to make 115 in a 128-run partnership with Vettori for the seventh wicket. His century came from 131 balls in 141 minutes and contained 11 fours.

Vettori reached a half century, after McCullum's dismissal, in 94 minutes with five fours while Franklin had earlier raised his half century in 164 minutes with seven fours, batting through the vital late stages of the first day and early stages of the second..

McCullum judged the pace - or complete lack of - of the pitch and played the field superbly. He waited against the three spinners used, playing primarily off the back foot, and his shuffled paddles also got him handy runs. He brought up his half-century with another aggressive cover-drive and continued to cut the ball into the gaps. McCullum negotiated his way easily from there on and the rest was a blur as he raised his century from 131 balls.

Vettori started off more circumspectly, content to defend and nudge the singles, but gradually he opened out too, essaying some deft late-cuts and soft-handed steers for four. The singles and doubles frustrated India and allowed New Zealand to creep toward 600. Vettori (55) and McCullum fell in relative succession - Ishant took his 50th Test wicket - and along came the declaration.

The 271-run stand between Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor is New Zealand's highest in Tests for the fourth wicket. It's also the second-highest by any team against India.
It's only the fourth instance - and the highest - of a team adding more than 200 for fourth wicket after being three down for less than 25. The last time it had been achieved was 26 years back, also against India, when Larry Gomes and Clive Lloyd added 237 after West Indies were 1 for 3 at Port of Spain.
Of the 151 runs Taylor scored, 54 came behind point, including 24 in the third-man region. In contrast, only four of Ryder's runs were scored through third man.
was most severe on Munaf Patel and Ishant Sharma, scoring 66 from 67 balls he faced from him. Against Zaheer Khan, he scored 37 from 58. Ryder was more prolific against Zaheer, scoring 36 from 40. Against Ishant and Munaf he managed 44 from 77.
's hundred broke a lean spell that had lasted 14 innings - in his last eight Tests he had only 322 runs at an average of 23. This is his third Test hundred, and his first against India - his previous two had both come against England.

New Zealand 351 For 4 In 1st innnings

Ross Taylor wasn't at his fluent best at McLean Park but, on a day when almost everything went his way, he didn't need to be. He swished, flashed and edged but luck was on his side and he was dropped twice. He eventually battled his way to a third Test century to give New Zealand some much-needed oomph. Riding shotgun at first before stepping into the driver's seat was Jesse Ryder, with his second century of the series, and New Zealand finished what had started as a disastrous day in a dominant position.

There were significant moments right from the start of this Test. For starters, Virender Sehwag walked out to toss instead of MS Dhoni, who was ruled out with a sore back. Then Daniel Vettori won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch that was a source of discussion because of a supposed fungal infection on the surface, and one he described as not having a consistent grass cover. That was followed by an almost typical New Zealand start with three wickets falling for just 23.

At that stage it appeared Vettori's call for his batsmen to play out at least 120 overs had fallen on deaf ears, but a record fourth-wicket partnership for New Zealand that followed vindicated his decision to bat. Taylor and Ryder put on an excellent rearguard effort and reached significant centuries.

India vs New zealand 2nd Test Live streaming From Napier

One down with two to play, New Zealand have it all to do. So comprehensively were they outplayed in all aspects in Hamilton that a reversal of fortunes is a tall task: their top order was woefully inadequate, the fast bowlers were a distant second to Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel, and Harbhajan Singh comfortably outperformed Daniel Vettori in the spin department.

The gulf was wide in the first Test, but New Zealand have been putting in the hard yards over the last four days to give themselves the best chance of bridging the gap. What they'll hope for now is to get some early momentum at McLean Park, take the honours in the first two sessions, and hope India feel the pressure. Some quick Indian wickets with the new ball could still swing things their way, but if India survive the early exchanges, it could be another long Test for New Zealand.

MS Dhoni has a superior team on paper, and proved that in the first Test, but India need to guard against complacency. While they've been winning more frequently overseas since 2000, series wins haven't been that easy to come by.

New Zealand
(likely): 1 Tim McIntosh, 2 Martin Guptill, 3 Daniell Flynn/Jamie How, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Jesse Ryder, 6 James Franklin, 7 Brendon McCullum (wk), 8 Daniel Vettori (capt), 9 Jeetan Patel, 10 Iain O'Brien, 11 Chris Martin.

India will almost certainly play the team that won so convincingly in Hamilton. There were question-marks over the third seamer before that game, but Munaf Patel dispelled them emphatically with match figures of 5 for 120.

India (likely): 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 Sachin Tendulkar, 5 VVS Laxman, 6 Yuvraj Singh, 7 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Munaf Patel.

Kolkata Knight Riders have decided not to have a fixed captain for the IPL

The Kolkata Knight Riders have decided not to have a fixed captain for the IPL this season. John Buchanan, the coach, told a press conference that the decision was "not a slight" to Sourav Ganguly but a plan for the future. He said there could be four or five captains through the tournament.

A grim-looking Ganguly, sitting beside Buchanan at the press conference, refused to elaborate on the decision and simply said the concept was new and needed to be assessed as it went on. Asked if he was upset by it, Ganguly did not answer directly and Buchanan interjected: "Of course he will be upset. He is the Prince of Kolkata." Ganguly laughed and put his hands up and said "I am not upset".

Ganguly said the plan was Buchanan's. "He is the coach of the team and he has got the right to make decisions. We'll see as it goes along. At the end of the day we all have to deliver."

Buchanan was at pains to explain that the multiple-captains theory was not prompted by a lack of confidence in Ganguly's leadership skills. "In fact it could actually be of benefit to someone like him because it could free him up for his batting, when he just needs to his batting or for his fielding when he just needs to do his fielding or when he needs to just do his bowling without the burden of the twenty-over format on his shoulders. At the same stage we might be asking him to make some key decisions for us. It has nothing to do with Sourav Ganguly whatsoever. It has everything to do with how I perceive the 20-over game and what the demands are running that game should be."

A wonderful stroke through cover off O'Brien took him to 99, and a wristy tuck on to the onside when James Franklin came on to bowl had the crowd on its feet, to acclaim a man whose feats are unlikely ever to be matched.

The punishment was far from over though. Jesse Ryder had been miserly on day two, but 24 hours later, Tendulkar greeted him with an on-drive, a deft swish behind point and a nonchalant clip off the pads. Of the 66 runs scored before drinks, he had made 47.

Sachin Tendulkar scored his 42nd Test century

Sachin Tendulkar scored his 42nd Test century and gave Seddon Park a batting masterclass as India established a stranglehold on proceedings on the third day. Having started the day one run in arrears, they piled up 242 in two sessions before dismissing both New Zealand openers and Kyle Mills, the night-watchman, in 31 overs before stumps. With Harbhajan Singh getting sharp turn and Munaf Patel hinting at some reverse swing, New Zealand's prospects of saving the game were decidedly slim.

Tendulkar's hundred took just 168 balls and his positive intent never allowed the bowlers to settle. India lost Yuvraj Singh to an error of judgement but though Mahendra Singh Dhoni was initially subdued, a 115 run partnership gave India an advantage that weren't likely to relinquish.

Over the past few months, there have been several glimpses of the Tendulkar of old, the peerless strokemaker who just came out and played without a thought for the cares of the world. That was in evidence again in the morning, with some magnificent strokes played all around the wicket. The tone for the day was set in the very first over with a lovely cover-drive after Yuvraj had clipped Chris Martin off the pads twice for fours.

To say the forthcoming Test series between India and New Zealand will be challenging for the home side would be a huge understatement. If everything plays out as suspected, it could be 15 long days of leather-chasing for the New Zealand players.
Steady progress by India though the pace of play wasn't frenetic. Sehwag's early dismissal gave New Zealand hope and to be fair they didn't bowl badly. India played it safe and didn't take too many chances, especially against Ryder. But they can still afford to take their time as there's plenty left in this Test.

Sachin Tendulkar keep 50 runs

That late flourish enlivened proceedings after New Zealand had established something of a tourniquet after tea. With Vettori accurate and Jesse Ryder wheeling away for five maidens with his medium pace, Tendulkar and VVS Laxman were becalmed. The scoring rate for the partnership was two an over, and there were some streaky strokes, inside egdes and a Laxman pull that just evaded O'Brien at deep square leg. When the new ball was taken, India were still 41 behind and New Zealand struck immediately, with Martin finding the edge to first slip.

Yuvraj Singh survived a few alarms, playing one superb cover-drive off the disappointing Kyle Mills, and with Tendulkar raising the tempo, the new ball didn't do the damage that New Zealand would have wished for. It had been much the same story in the morning after Sehwag's departure, though the dismissals of Gambhir and Dravid after lunch did redress the balance somewhat.

Play started 15 minutes late because of overnight rain and there was moisture around to interest the seamers. But the breakthrough New Zealand sought arrived courtesy some poor cricket from the Indians. Gambhir played Mills into the covers and set off for two. But with James Franklin making good ground and hitting the stumps direct, Sehwag was well short of his ground. He had made 24 from 21 balls and his body language betrayed his disgust as he walked off.

Gambhir took his mind off the fiasco with a neat clip through midwicket off Mills as New Zealand sought to keep the runs down and build up some pressure. It didn't happen. Dravid has been a hesitant starter in recent times, but a glance for four off Martin and a lovely cut off Mills allowed him to play himself in.

ndian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl in the first Test against New Zealand at Seddon Park on Wednesday.

After securing its first limited-overs series victory in New Zealand, India are now seeking their first Test series win in the country in 41 years. wicket but if there is going to be anything in it, it will probably be in the first couple of hours or first half session," Dhoni said. "We want to give our bowlers the best chance to get them out because the pitch will get better to bat on.

"The best time to bowl for the seamers is when the wicket is fresh."

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was happy to bat first, saying he would have chosen to do so had he won the toss.

"We know it's going to do a bit early one but once you get through that it's a good batting deck," he said. There are so many ways of looking at it but we decided to back our batsman. There's maybe a little bit there but if we get out and do a bit with the bat, maybe we can nullify that."

New Zealand omitted uncapped seamer Brent Arnel and spinner Jeetan Patel from its match lineup, restoring Chris Martin as the spearhead of its bowling attack.

India won the five-match limited-overs series 3-1, losing the last match and splitting a match that was washed out.

Dravid reaches most catches in Test cricket

The earlier fumbling catch off Guptill was Dravid 181st, taking him level with Mark Waugh for the most catches in Test cricket. "Let's hope he gets a pair and then gets dropped," Waugh had said when Dravid was getting close to the record during the home series against Australia in 2008. Maybe Waugh's wish to keep the record a little longer is working. When 182 came Dravid's way, he was a microsecond too late to react at first slip and dropped Vettori, who was on 77 at the time. Vettori went on to score 118.

India vs New Zealand 1st Test From Hamilton

After a breathtaking ODI series, if the two teams needed any motivation before the start of the Tests, it has arrived through reinforcements to the Test squad. One each in particular for the two sides. Men who lost years in their prime to injuries. Men who came back transformed: one with a changed bowling action, the other with a different role. They will both be looking to fulfil primarily the third pace bowler's responsibility for their teams. For inspiration, look no further than L Balaji and James Franklin.

Two years ago, Franklin was struggling to get through the 2007 World Cup. In the game against Bangladesh, he had to go off the field because of what seemed like a migraine attack but was actually much worse. "I get tunnel vision and a headache that spikes me in the head," Franklin said then. "In the drinks break I was fine, but when I tried to focus on something it was all blurred. I bowled an over after that. It was a blur and in the later part it was all blue vision."

Ipl Changed in Indian Government

The Indian government has asked the IPL to revise its tournament dates once again. The government wants the IPL to rework the revised schedule after consulting the states in which the matches are to be held. BCCI sources said discussions have already been initiated at the state level in this regard.

"We told them it will not be possible to provide central paramilitary forces for the IPL because of the elections," home ministry spokesman Onkarmal Kedia said. "We want them to draw up a schedule after consulting state governments on the dates when they can provide security. The ministry will take a decision after receiving a new schedule."

N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, told reporters in New Delhi after a one-and-a-half hour meeting that home ministry officials had explained their concerns about the dates in detail. "We have also expressed our difficulties and our own concerns," Srinivasan said.

Some of the IPL's options are to have a packed schedule - with up to three matches in a day - and shorten the tournament, the matches to states that are willing to provide security for them.

During the third ODI in Christchurch, when New Zealand still had a chance of winning the series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was forced into a move he had been reluctant to make, especially given the short boundaries. When Munaf Patel began the 45th over, New Zealand needed 71 with two wickets in hand to chase down an improbable 392. The first ball went for a six, the second and fourth were beamers, after which Munaf had to be taken off, forcing Dhoni to turn to Yusuf Pathan for the first time that night.

The next four deliveries produced a single, a dot ball, another dot ball, and a wicket. The game had turned. Amid the excitement created by Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and the rest of India's batting line-up, a part-timer had provided the small, final turning point of the match. New Zealand would not have spent sleepless nights over that dismissal - Kyle Mills had to go for everything at that point - but they will be concerned that India's fifth-bowler combine of Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf has outbowled their combination of Jacob Oram, Grant Elliot and Jesse Ryder. And irritatingly for New Zealand, it has been an important factor in this series.

The Indian government has asked the IPL

The Indian government has asked the IPL organisers to reconsider the schedule that had been sent to them for approval. The revised dates had sought to avoid a clash with the dates for general elections in India.

Under the revised schedule, there was a minimum gap of up to 48 hours - six to seven days in some cases - before and after the election at any specific venue. This was to ensure the matches would still take place inside the original April 10-May 24 window, but would not clash with the election dates.

The IPL was having an emergency meeting in Mumbai to discuss the implications of the government decision.

India vs New Zealand 4th Odi Live Streaming,Hamilton

Oh seaming pitch, where art thou? It has been painful to watch batsmen v batsmen v rain so far. The first three one-dayers have been like matches in India, the only difference being the greener and smaller grounds. Why bother making a two-day journey across the world for the same brand of cricket, the Indians must be thinking.

If you had stopped following cricket after India's 2002-03 tour of New Zealand, you would need to pinch yourself to make sure these matches are being played in the same country. The younger batsmen in the Indian squad must be thinking what the fuss about difficult pitches, cold weather and low totals was about. But the pitches in New Zealand have changed, a prime example being Australia's failure to defend 340 twice two years ago.

Going into the fourth match in Hamilton, the talk has been about what is a defendable total. Going by the evidence from Christchurch, it's not 340. New Zealand's bowlers have talked about mysterious plans that they haven't been able to execute against India's batsmen. In the only innings that was uninterrupted by rain, the bowlers didn't seem to have any.

If Brendon McCullum is to be believed Seddon Park, the venue for Wednesday's match, should present the bowlers with a similar test. The boundaries are not as absurdly short as those at Christchurch's AMI Stadium but they are still not big enough to give batsmen headaches.

Australian come Again First Rank

ttritional South African batting and insipid Australian catching could not prevent the pace triumvirate of Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus from positioning the tourists within four wickets of a series-clinching victory at the lunch break. In claiming a wicket apiece with the second new ball, Australia's pace attack - with a little help from the occasional wrist-spin of Simon Katich - reduced South Africa to 307 for 6, still trailing by a now insurmountable 238 with two sessions remaining.

Australia's quest for a third consecutive Test victory over the South Africans began inauspiciously, with Michael Clarke turfing Jacques Kallis to a straightforward chance at point. The reprieve was Kallis' second from the bowling of Siddle - the first coming from his first ball faced on Monday - and prompted dejected looks among the Australian fieldsmen. Johnson, though, ensured the mistake would not fester, removing the South African allrounder in the next over with a shorter, angling delivery that deflected off the outside edge and came to rest in the sure hands of Ricky Ponting at second slip.

Siddle was soon rewarded for his persistence with the wicket of the dangerous AB de Villiers, effectively terminating the South African resistance. This match is shaping as Siddle's finest on the international stage, and his delivery to de Villiers - fast, angling in, seaming away and shaving the edge - was from the very top shelf. South Africa were 279 for 4 midway through the session, and fighting for survival.

The hosts benefited from another reprieve when the luckless Siddle watched forlornly as Haddin spilled JP Duminy diving to his left. But, again, reinforcements were close at hand, and Ben Hilfenhaus promptly accounted for him with a short, sharp delivery that deflected from the gloves and flew to Haddin, no doubt grateful for his chance at redemption.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul produced an unflinchingly obdurate innings of 147 not out, and Brendan Nash chipped in with his maiden Test century, as West Indies stood firm against a frustrated England bowling attack to manoeuvre themselves ever closer to their first series victory since 2004, and their first triumph over England since the days of Ambrose and Walsh in 1997-98. By the close of the fourth and penultimate day of the contest, West Indies were themselves scenting an incredible final-day victory push, as they reduced England to 80 for 3 in their second innings, with Fidel Edwards producing a vicious three-over burst in the fading light that culminated in the near decapitation of Kevin Pietersen with the final ball of the day.

Nevertheless, Pietersen endured to the close on 34 not out from 27 balls, and so long as he remains, all four results will be possible. He came to the crease after the twin dismissals of Owais Shah, who completed another disappointing match by feathering his fifth ball through to the keeper, and Andrew Strauss, who chipped a return catch to the one-legged Chris Gayle for 14, having earlier survived an incredible appeal for caught-behind that once again brought the referral system into the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Alastair Cook also fell before the close, caught-behind for 24 to a nick so thin that no sound could be heard when that decision too was put to the third umpire, while Paul Collingwood survived a squeakingly tight appeal for lbw when facing up to his first delivery from Ryan Hinds.
